Natural Burma Carved Jade (Jadeite) Sculptural Rock Formation
Depicting two men drinking tea, hand carved in a jadeite vein. Exact period unknown (estimated 2oth century). Origin is Burma. Very beautiful, pictures do not do it justice. Roughly 11 pounds. Measures approximately 9" H x 13" L rests on a lacquered wooden base.
This piece was in the USA prior to the passage of the embargo* on jadeite from Burma and is legally available for sale. Which make pieces like this now even more valuable.
*Called the “Tom Lantos Block Burmese JADE (Junta's Anti-Democratic Efforts) Act of 2008,” the bill specifically prohibit importation of jadeite and ruby, “mined or extracted,” from Burma, including articles of jewelry set with Burmese jade or ruby. … The President shall prohibit the importation into the United States of any Burmese covered article.”
